A large haul of explosives found from estate sector
  A person with a large haul of powerful explosives was apprehended near Sinnamale railway tunnel at Hatton. After interrogating him two other persons too have been taken into custody. The weight of the apprehended explosives is about 500 grams and they have been sent to Government Analyst's Department.

  President Mahinda Rajapaksha addressing the PA candidates contesting the forthcoming local government elections from all corners of the country at Sugatadasa Stadium yesterday(01st) said that the road has been cleared for the candidates to become chairmen, PC members or even the Prime Minister or the President with their skill and commitment. Lanka opposition wants ceasefire details out in open
  The controversy over amendments reported to have been made to the existing Ceasefire Agreement with Tamil rebels has taken a further turn with the opposition demanding that the government make a clarification on the amendments.

  The main opposition is demanding that the government makes public the amendments it is reported to have made to the existing CFA.

Former President objects to President meeting candidates!
  Ms. Chandrika Bandaranayke Kumaratunga, former President and president of the SLFP, has opposed the meeting held yesterday(01st). This meeting had been organized for President Mahinda Rajapakse to meet all the candidates of the UPFA contesting the local government elections.

  Ms. Kumaratunga had expressed her opposition to the meeting in a letter written to Mr. Maithripala Sirisena, Secretary General of the SLFP.

Commissioner of Elections goes to court!
  A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court by Commissioner of Elections Mr. Dayananda Dishanayake and Asst. Commissioner of Elections Mr. Mahinda Deshapriya requesting that interim injunction issued by Appeal Court suspending elections for Colombo Municipality scheduled to be held on the 30th March be annulled. Several including secretary general of the UNP have been made respondents.
