| A person with a large haul of powerful explosives was apprehended near Sinnamale railway tunnel at Hatton. After interrogating him two other persons too have been taken into custody. The weight of the apprehended explosives is about 500 grams and they have been sent to Government Analyst's Department.

Ms. Chandrika Bandaranayke Kumaratunga, former President and president of the SLFP, has opposed the meeting held yesterday(01st). This meeting had been organized for President Mahinda Rajapakse to meet all the candidates of the UPFA contesting the local government elections.
Ms. Kumaratunga had expressed her opposition to the meeting in a letter written to Mr. Maithripala Sirisena, Secretary General of the SLFP.

| A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court by Commissioner of Elections Mr. Dayananda Dishanayake and Asst. Commissioner of Elections Mr. Mahinda Deshapriya requesting that interim injunction issued by Appeal Court suspending elections for Colombo Municipality scheduled to be held on the 30th March be annulled.
