| Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) dissident MP Faiszer Musthapa declared yesterday that he joined the Government unconditionally without accepting any ministerial portfolio solely to strengthen the hands of President Mahinda Rajapakse to take the country forward. COLOMBO, Monday (AFP) Sri Lanka sold a record 308 million kilos of the commodity to overseas buyers last year, a brokering house said yesterday.
The tea exports in 2005 were 2.83 per cent higher than in 2004, maintaining a small but steady increase seen in the past three years, the Asia Siyaka Commodities said.

The organizing committee of the National Day Celebrations on February 04 has made arrangements to celebrate the 58th National Independence Day on a grand scale, states a Government media release.
After many years, the Independence Day Parade will be held at Galle Face Green this year, with the participation of the three Armed Forces and the Armoured Corps. Special facilities have been arranged for the public to view the parade.

Indian Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal SP Tyagi, arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday afternoon on a five day visit to explore possibilities of strengthening existing ties between the Air Forces of both countries.
The special Indian Air Force aircraft carrying the Indian Air Force Chief touched down at 5 pm at Katunayake.
