The Government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) will meet in Geneva on February 22 and 23 for truce talks, peace facilitator Norway announced last night.
"The parties to the conflict in Sri Lanka, the Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE, have asked Norway to facilitate talks in Geneva, Switzerland, from February 22 to 23," the Norwegian Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement.

Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) President V. Anandasangaree has strongly condemned the claim of an LTTE leader that the claymore mine attack on the military was by the civilians and not by them.
Anandasangaree in a statement on behalf of the TULF stated that the Sri Lankan Tamils were not barbarians.

The Government has decided to set up two companies to oversee oil drilling activities on Sri Lanka's coastal belt.
Transport and Petroleum Resources Development Minister A.H.M. Fowzie told the Daily News that the two companies which will be fully owned by the State will be responsible for overseeing the oil exploitation activities.
